The
Tri-Village Garden Club was formed in 1997 to fill the need
for a garden club in the villages of Bartlett, Hanover Park,
and Streamwood, Illinois. We
are a member of the Garden Clubs of Illinois .
Our History:
In 1997, our founder Valerie Howells, relocated to Streamwood, IL. She
looked for a local garden club and when she found none, she contacted
the Garden Clubs of Illinois to see if they could provide a lead.
There was no club in the area, so they suggested that she start one.
They sent information to Valerie, and she set about to start the club.
The Tri-Village Garden Club had their first meeting in October 1997.
There was a representative of the Garden Clubs Of Illinois to speak
with the guests and to explain what garden clubs do. Valerie
distributed daylily roots, and officers were elected. Many of the
people who attended the first meeting are still members.
What we do:
Our club meets once a month. We hire speakers at least eight times a
year, and the topics vary depending on the availability of speakers.
We have had meetings on general gardening tips, water gardens, spring
bulbs, lawn care, flower arranging, native plants, and others. When we
don't have a speaker, we may watch a video, make crafts, or have a
group discussion on our own garden concerns.
Our annual events include Streamwood Landscaping Expo, a plant
fundraiser, member garden walk, Bartlett Bonanza Days, Streamwood
Chamberfest and the Christmas party held at our December meeting.
Our members have worked on community landscaping projects at the
Bartlett Public Library, Rahlfs Woods Park in Streamwood and one of
the Hanover Park elementary schools. We also collect produce from area
residents for the Plant-A-Row for
the Hungry program for the local soup kitchens and food pantries.
We arrange field trips to the Chicago
Flower Show at Navy Pier, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and other local
sites of interest.
Our annual membership is $15.00.
Meetings are held
at the
Poplar Creek Library, 1405 S Park Ave,
Streamwood, on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at
7:00
PM.
